Data networks
All home automation technology requires structured cable networks in the house. These cables can also be used to build data networks, so that computers (PCs) and other network devices anywhere in the home can access other local network devices and the internet. For example:
- Games consoles (PlayStation3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox360) can then be played online
- Sonos and other music systems can then play internet radio & streaming music services
- BluRay players can play trailers from internet for all of the latest films in the cinema
- Network storage devices store music, photos and videos which are then always accessible from any PC or media player on the home network
- Lutron lighting systems connected to the network can be controlled from computers/remotes in the house, or even remotely with secure connection from the internet
